Carbocations as Lewis acid catalysts in Diels-Alder and Michael addition reactions.
In general, Lewis acid catalysts are metal-based compounds that owe their reactivity to a low-lying empty orbital. However, one potential Lewis acid that has received negligible attention as a catalyst is the carbocation. We have demonstrated the potential of the carbocation as a highly powerful Lewis acid catalyst for organic reactions. The stable and easily available triphenylmethyl (trityl) ...
متن کاملEfficient Tertiary Amine/Weak Acid Bifunctional Mesoporous Silica Catalysts for Michael Addition Reactions
The Michael reaction, which involves 1,4-addition of a nucleophile (preferably a C-nucleophile) to an a,b-unsaturated compound, offers a simple yet effective way of making C C bonds, which makes it one of the most widely used reactions in both industry and academia. The reaction, as first reported by Arthur Michael in 1887, involves primarily the attack of a Cnucleophile, generated from compoun...
متن کاملInvestigation into thiol-(meth)acrylate Michael addition reactions using amine and phosphine catalysts†
This work describes a study into thiol–ene based Michael addition reactions. Different catalysts, primary and tertiary amines and phosphines, were investigated for the reaction of a range of thiols with dimers and oligomers of some (meth)acrylates. Primary and tertiary amines are efficient catalysts for the thiol–ene reaction, although these catalysts require several hours to reach high convers...
متن کاملAsymmetric Michael addition reactions of nitroalkanes to 2-furanones catalyzed by bifunctional thiourea catalysts.
The first bifunctional thiourea catalyzed asymmetric Michael addition reactions of nitroalkanes to 2-furanones are described. The highly functionalized γ-lactones with two or three consecutive stereogenic carbons were obtained in high yields (up to 99%), high diastereoselectivities (up to >20 : 1 dr) and enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee).
متن کاملBase metal complexes as homogeneous catalysts and enzyme mimics.
This article is a short overview of some recent research activity in the Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Catalysis (LSCI) at EPFL-ISIC. It summarizes the work on Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of non-activated alkyl halides. It then describes and discusses the work on the bio-mimetic chemistry of [Fe]-hydrogenase.
